C H A R A C T E R I N F O R M A T I O N
Name: Fushimi Saruhiko
Canon: K-project
Original or Alternate Universe: Original
Canon Point: Post episode 13.
Number: Please randomize! (Although, I would like to make a request: if both Fushimi and Misaki are accepted, could Fushimi have a number that compliments his? If not, that’s okay. But it’d be terribleinteresting to see what would happen!)

Setting:

The world of K is set in a pretty modern Japan. To be specific, Shizume City. The technology, as well, is up-to-date, and the majority of the society relies on their use of a PDA to get them places or access to otherwise restricted areas. For example, Ashinaka High School can only be entered with a verification ID from the person’s PDA as there is only one entrance/exit. There are cars, trains, helicopters, blimps, and any other modern day mode of transportation that can be thought of. Computers, holographic screens, and cellphones (the PDAs) are completely common too. Also, as a really random side note, the streets are kept particularly clean by these crazy robots who require absolute respect or throw out insults if someone gets in the way of their job. Their favorite seems to be versions of, “You’re too kind!!” or “Please die!!”

Something that sets this word apart, however, is the existence of Strains and Clans. Strains are genetically altered in a way so that they have a certain ability. Such examples could be the alteration of perception/reality, affecting memories, or a horse with wings. There’s not much information on the cause of a Strain’s powers, but it is known that they can be dangerous, so they are typically hunted by a higher authority known as Scepter 4. They’re a government-oriented group with plenty of funding, and they normally do as they please considering, though things go smoother if they have the cooperation of those they work with. They are also the Blue Clan.

Clans, essentially, are groups of people who serve beneath a king and possess a particular aura. This power originates from something called the Dresden Slate and takes the form of the Sword of Damocles when the king is in battle. Those who are initiated into the clan use the power of their king to fight, so it isn’t something that is taken lightly. For example, the Red Clan’s initiation involves meeting the king and shaking his hand while it’s engulfed in flame; if they are deemed worthy, they are marked with the Red Clan tattoo and become a member. If not, they suffer severe burns. So far, the following clans have been mentioned are: Silver, Gold, Red, Blue, Green, and Colorless.

Aside from these (odd) details, the world works mostly in the same manner as ours does.

History:

From what is seen of Fushimi’s history, he and Misaki were the best of best friends. They did a lot of the same things together, spent their free time together, and complimented each other as well as any friends could. One day, hanging out on the street like delinquents, Misaki snatches Fushimi's bottled soda to drink the rest of it and carelessly chucks it at some people walking by. The Red King gives a demonstration of his power by melting the glass, and Kusanagi, the second in command, invites them to do something with their lives and join Homra--the Red Clan.

As far as it's known in canon, Fushimi joins because Misaki does. However, as time progresses, it becomes obvious that Fushimi is being left behind by his best friend, not fitting in with the others as well as Misaki, and eventually, he does something rather drastic and defects to Scepter 4 - the Blue Clan - which is the rival of Homra. When Misaki finds out, he confronts him about it. Fushimi doesn't hide it, and Misaki asks him why, tells him that the mark he wears from his initiation means something. Of course, at this point, Fushimi is in disagreement, saying they’re wasting their time being thugs, and he uses his aura to burn away the Homra tattoo. Their friendship immediately changes from that point on, and they are now considered enemies.

Skipping forward, the start of the series focuses on the death of a well-loved member of Homra named Tatara Totsuka by someone who claims to be the “new” Colorless King (since the previous king had passed away from illness). Oddly enough, the same face happens to belong to a then student of Ashinaka High School by the name of Isana Yashiro. He appears carefree and loved by almost everyone in the school - at least enough to let him mooch off their lunches every day - as well as friends with a particular few. The hunt for the seemingly innocent Shiro begins, and he meets Yatogami Kuroh, the vassal for the previous Colorless King. He made a vow to assess Shiro and deem him innocent or guilty of the title--if guilty, he would slay him on the spot. Kuroh protects him from both Scepter 4 and Homra, since both clans are hunting him as well. Homra for obvious reasons and Scepter 4 because the murder was videoed and widely released for the public to see.

Kuroh and Shiro spend a lot of time on the run, trying to find proof of his innocence so Kuroh and the others don’t kill him. At some point, they learn that Shiro is not who he claims (and thinks he is). Shiro’s cat, Neko, is a strain with the ability to alter memories, and after meeting Shiro when he fell through roof, changed them so that he was a student at school since he couldn’t actually remember where he’d come from or who he was. This explains why most of the students they run into can’t exactly place Shiro’s face or how they know him. During a confrontation with Scepter 4, Shiro reveals that he, indeed, as a Sword of Damocles. They make their escape, and Neko returns Shiro’s real memories to the point he himself remembers: being on a blimp with a mysterious figure who shoves him of it to fall to his death.

Later, they find out the person on the blimp is someone called Adolf K. Weismann, originally a researcher responsible for the Dresden Slate disaster in Germany some odd number of years ago. He’s also the Silver King and is apparently immortal. Meanwhile, the Colorless King continues to cause chaos, having the ability to switch bodies/hosts. Homra and Scepter 4 close in his location after Mikoto - who, until recently, had been kept prisoner by the Blue Clan (on purpose) - learns it to be at the high school. Then, an epic battle commences. Mikoto and Munakata [ the leader of Scepter 4, the Blue King ] eventually face off as Shiro hunts down the Colorless King. SPOILER When the Colorless King tries to take over his body again, Shiro regains his memories and learns that he actually is Adolf K. Weismann. The Colorless King had wanted to take his body, thus his powers and his immortality, but it failed in the initial body switch. /SPOILER The Colorless King escapes in the body of classmate of Shiro’s, and when Shiro discovers her, he takes the Colorless King into himself so he can interfere with the Blue and Red King’s fight. Only a King can kill another King, and Shiro allows Mikoto to end both their lives. Or so it seems by the end anyway. From there, since Mikoto’s Sword of Damocles basically disintegrates, rather than allow it to crush him, SPOILERMunakata runs him through with sword and kills him./SPOILER. The series basically begins in tears and ends in them too.

An in-depth summary of each episode can be found here.

As for Fushimi’s role throughout K, he’s seen helping Scepter 4 collect intel in hopes to track down the Colorless King. He also clashes with Misaki quite a bit and end up fighting each other rather than discuss the problems between them.

Personality:

If one was to describe Fushimi Saruhiko, it would begin with rather negative words. In general, he seems to be a completely aloof and bored sort of person. He acts as if nothing in the slightest interests him, hardly taking notice, and it often comes off as being apathetic toward a majority of things. For the most part, this is true. Fushimi is bored. He finds things dull and uninteresting and not worth his time or attention. Despite the calm exterior he likes to present, he becomes easily irritable if or when he’s ordered to do something he doesn’t want to do. Though he doesn’t voice his actual dislike, the suggestion is in his body language and mannerisms. Often with a tch or click of his tongue. Even an annoyed sigh is something to look for when he’s being disagreeable—which is a good 98% of the time. For only being nineteen, Fushimi isn’t particularly happy and is more pessimistic than he should be at such an age.

Another particularly strong characteristic of Fushimi’s to note is his hatred. He literally hates almost everything. If they’re not related to the few things he actually does enjoy, chances are he hates it regardless of whether or not it’s affected him in some way. Work? He hates it. Drinking and/or socializing with co-workers? He hates it. Vegetables? Yeah, he especially hates those. It makes him seem unpleasant when put in a spot to make decisions as he doesn’t have vastly varying opinions on a wide variety of things; he’s stuck to his thoughts and isn’t easily swayed into changing them. With this certain aspect in mind, Fushimi is also shown to be extremely jealous. Given that he clings to what it is he knows and likes, it stands to reason that he’d become apprehensive about others getting too close or involved with them. A specific example would be the entirety of Yata Misaki, but this will be elaborated on later.

A few other things to note: Fushimi is kind of lazy. This goes hand-in-hand with his indifferent attitude and his lack of caring about much. Though he can’t be pressed to do things, it is shown that he will, if reluctantly, follow orders given by his superiors. This shows that he does have some minor respect for Seri, Scepter 4’s second in command, and Munakata. However, this might be skewed as well since he actually only does things to benefit himself. Fushimi’s loyalties are heavily vague (considering his defect from Homra to Scepter 4), and more often than not, there is an underlying means to an end in everything he does. On the surface, he may be accomplishing a certain goal for those he works for, but ultimately, he is motivated to do it for his own reasons. He’s a quiet, selfish person who shows very little emotional investment in others around him. In fact, he has no friends and making them is too much of a chore. Given his past experiences, he doesn’t see the need for it either.

To better understand Fushimi, it is crucial to know what makes him tick. It’s painfully obvious that Yata Misaki, his once best friend, is a very important character in his (lack of positive) personality traits. Misaki, to put it bluntly, is his center. What he does and how he does things centers and focuses on him. Sometimes, it’s difficult to remember that Fushimi is still only a teenager; he’s prone to showing his feelings in the stupidest ways rather than talk about them like a reasonable adult. Above all else in the world, Fushimi wants Misaki’s attention. After joining Homra and seeing how well his friend integrated into the Clan, while he struggled with the very idea, he felt as though Misaki was leaving him behind and trading him for something else. Something he had no control over. Hurt and upset by the thought, he spitefully turns his back to him and joins Scepter 4 as a way to get that attention. Misaki was finally seeing him and only looking at him again, even though it was in a negative light. It doesn’t matter how over-the-top or insane the notion is, Fushimi will do it if Misaki is devoting more than all of his focus on him.

In fact, this is one of the only things that seems to ever excite Fushimi. For a while, he does seem more like a human rather than a pathetic wannabe, but sometimes, this can be taken too far as well. There are no middle grounds with Fushimi; there are only extremes. This might come off as a bit psychotic at times, but he’s not nearly as unstable as it paints him to be. Things that should be pointedly made aware: Fushimi is not a sociopath. He is not smooth or capable of lying well or uncaring. He still cares greatly for Misaki. [ A good example of this would be during the fight with Kuroh when Misaki collapsed in pain. Rather than continue to attack him, he stopped and checked on him after practically ripping his shirt open to see what was ailing him. ] He is also not heartless. When Mikoto breaks free from his prison at the Scepter 4 mansion, Fushimi helps protect Seri from the King’s power because he knows that none of them are a match for that. Also, because of this, it shows that he is not entirely reckless either. He knows when he needs to back down - like he did with Mikoto - and it means he isn’t going to carelessly throw his life away for something small or pointless.

To add to this, when engaged in battle, he tends to go a little overboard. Granted, with Misaki, it’s more of an outlet of built-up emotions that causes him not to think things through as thoroughly as he might have to start. He also tends to antagonize him simply for fun. Whether it’s insulting him with personal jokes (like that of Misaki’s virginity) or saying hurtful things, anything that will get a reaction out of the other is fair game. Because Fushimi is rather obsessed with his (ex-)friend, he tends to know more about Misaki than Misaki does himself. Such as height, birthday, likes and dislikes. It might make him seem a bit creepy, but he simply can’t help himself when it comes to Misaki. He still clings to the times that were good for him and hopes that Misaki will eventually, one day, come back to him despite the fact he betrayed him.

Unfortunately, considering that they’re both relatively stubborn when it comes to giving in and admitting that wrong, something like that is far off.

*A cute little thing that needs mentioned about Fushimi is that he actually enjoys comparing zodiac signs, specifically his and Misaki’s. So, here’s to hoping the ship has daily horoscopes. He also tends to grind his teeth when he’s annoyed, angry, upset, or thinking a little too much.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:

Because Fushimi defected to Scepter 4, he actually has the ability to use Red and Blue aura. However, due to his canon point, his Red aura will not be accessed for obvious spoilery reasons (mentioned in the history). He’s also been trained to handle a saber and knows how to use throwing knives, which are his preferred weapon of choice. Since the Red aura won’t be available, the pain that it used to inflict on him (similar to a burning sensation that would cause him to scratch at the mark-turned-scar), this won’t be a problem. On a more practical note, Fushimi is decent at using computers given that he linked his PDA with the school database to scan for the suspect involved in Totsuka’s murder.

As far as weaknesses are concerned, Fushimi is apathetic and lazy. He doesn’t see the point in making friends easily, and his lack of drive, unless self-motivated for various reasons, will make things particularly difficult for him. Alienating everyone is not a skill that should be refined. Plus, he needs his glasses to see. Which is probably due to the fact he has a poor diet; he really does hate those vegetables...

**[ Also, I have been debating whether or not to nix Fushimi’s Blue aura as well. Considering that that power comes from a King and there isn’t a King on board yet, I am going to leave that up to you guys (the mods) to decide what should be allowed. Or it could be some freaky space thing, and no King be necessary for this to still be intact. If not, I’ll just keep them in place since he doesn’t have the use of his Red aura. ]

When Fushimi woke up, he knew something was wrong. It wasn’t the time to be asleep and didn’t seem logical that he hadn’t been called to do some inane work that would have left him purposely busy for hours. Backtracking, pointless details that were a waste of time. Even if Awashima had gotten busy, she wouldn’t have let his own duties go unattended. Honestly, it was annoying, but Fushimi had other things to be concerned with at the moment.

Realizations was the more fit term. It was dark and difficult to swallow-- The disorientation, perhaps, was probably the worst, and before he could settle on one particular sensation, he was being thrown forward and out. The burn in his throat hurt, enough to make him raise a hand and weakly press his fingertips into it. He wanted to claw the pain out, scratch and dig until he couldn’t feel it anymore. If he hadn’t been so focused on trying to breathe, he would have settled on that as the first thing that needed to be done. That, and it was too cold to get properly motivated. He squinted, vision blurry.

“What...”

Even that, it seemed, was too much for him.

Fushimi dug an elbow into the hard floor of whatever room he was in and scooted forward a little; he could only make out enough shapes to determine it to be a medical area of some kind. Anything else was beyond him and not entirely of interest. He felt weak, absurdly so, and he gave a frustrated sigh. He was not going to be subject to this...whatever. He didn’t like that he was sticky - slimy? - or that his glasses were somewhere else, preventing him from taking note of his location. Had one of the Clans done this to him? Was this some strange, new punishment he had been unaware of?

A cough, and with the energy he could muster, he grit his teeth. One more thing to add to the growing list of things he’d found dislikeable.

“Troublesome,” he squeezed out between another cough and waited for the dizziness to pass before forcing himself up into a sitting position. Fushimi needed answers, and he wasn’t going to get them sitting around as if he expecting to be rescued. He wiped at his cheek, the flash of something dark catching his attention, and the tattoo...

--had he been initiated into a different Clan this time?

The thought momentarily overwhelmed him, made him dizzier than the initial fall from the tube he’d been in, and his hand squeezed as his naked knees to keep from shaking, the laugh choked and hard. How perfectly ridiculous and fitting. Fushimi breathed, light-headed and thinking clouded to the point of frustration. There was more to this, that much was certain, and as soon as he could move without the lethargy weighing his limbs down, he was going to do something about it.

Until then, at the very least, he was going to be smart. He was going to be patient. And if he happened to hate every second of it, well. That wasn’t any different than normal, was it?

Che. [ He's already displeased, and it's clear from the tone of his voice that he isn't very impressed. ] This is a stupid idea. It doesn't make any sense either.

[ There's a slight pause, the only sound the slight 'click' of his glasses as he pushes them up with his finger. ] A few things though. This PDA is broken, and I need information. Anything will work as long as it's useful.

[ A beat. Then a drawn out sigh. ]
